Happy Doctors Day! Today we’re taking a moment to show our appreciation for Nova Scotia’s dedicated doctors and the work they do every day to support the health and well-being of our communities.
In addition to delivering patient care, our doctors are leading healthcare transformation, working to improve the healthcare system and ensure that it’s evolving to meet the needs of patients and physicians alike.
From family physicians to specialists to public health leaders, physicians are vital to helping us lead healthier, longer lives. On May 1, and every day, we say, “Thanks, doc!”

Doctors Day was first recognized as the official day of appreciation for Nova Scotia’s medical profession in 2013. May 1 was selected as Doctors Day to mark the birthday of Canada’s first female physician, Dr. Emily Stowe.
This event is about recognizing Nova Scotia’s doctors and the important work that they do to improve the lives of Nova Scotians and to strengthen our healthcare system.
In addition to providing patient care, doctors are leading healthcare transformation, working to improve healthcare in Nova Scotia and to ensure that the system is evolving to meet the current and future needs of patients and doctors alike.
