About Doctors Day

Doctors Day was first recognized as the official day of appreciation for Nova Scotia’s medical profession in 2013. May 1 was selected as Doctors Day to mark the birthday of Canada’s first female physician, Dr. Emily Stowe.

This event is about recognizing Nova Scotia’s doctors and the important work that they do to improve the lives of Nova Scotians and to strengthen our health-care system.

In addition to providing patient care, doctors are leading health-care transformation, working to improve health care in Nova Scotia and to ensure that the health-care system is evolving to meet the current and future needs of patients and doctors alike.

From primary care to specialist care, doctors are committed to helping you live a long and healthy life. On May 1, we say, “Thanks, doc!”
